From January 8 to 11, 2021, 2021 Haikou International New Energy Vehicle & Connected Mobility Show themed “Green Future” was held at Hainan International Exhibition Center. The auto show gathered well-known new energy vehicle producers and intelligent and connected vehicle manufacturers from both home and abroad. As the backbone of China’s auto industry and a leading modern manufacturer in Beijing, BAIC participated in the auto show with eight new energy vehicle models under five sub-brands, showcasing its innovative outcomes in fields including intelligence and connectivity, energy conservation and new energy technology under its brand-new brand structure.

Eight New Models Cover New Energy Markets of All Classes

BAIC has been dedicated to new energy vehicles for over a decade, with brands and products covering markets of all classes from high-end luxury vehicles to economical vehicles for home use. The “luxury lineup” displayed at the Haikou auto show allowed both insiders and consumers to experience BAIC’s fruits in the new energy vehicle field.  

The models displayed included αT, the first mass-produced model of BAIC’s high-end new energy brand ARCFOX that has a duration of 653km; X7 PHEV, the first plug-in hybrid model under BEIJING’s all-new “magic cube” structure; BEIJING’s pure electrical vehicle series EU7, EU5 and EC3 equipped with the latest technologies like EMD3.0Pro intelligent electrical control and IBTC intelligent bionic temperature control; EV5, a product of BAIC Changhe dedicated to new energy logistics which incorporates special functions like ultraviolet sterilization and negative pressure disinfection for the medical purpose and sealed and safe transport for the relief purpose and plays a big role in the fight against COVID-19; EQC SUV, which is produced by Beijing Benz as the first mass-produced pure electrical model under the EQ brand and provides users with safe and luxury driving and riding experience and considerate charging and after-sales services, and ENCINO, Beijing Hyundai’s first pure electrical SUV which offers Chinese consumers a new option of green and smart travelling with core technologies more competitive than its peers of the same class.

BAIC Boasts Competitive New Energy Technologies after a Decade’s Development

As a pioneer that embarked on new energy vehicles among China’s self-developed brands, BAIC set up a new energy R&D team consisting of over 1,600 members as early as 2009. By far, it has input more than RMB5.3 billion in R&D, completed 4,557 patent applications, and established a R&D technical standard system step by step that contributes significantly to the industry’s technical progress by developing over 1,700 corporate standards and participating in the preparation of 80-plus national and industrial standards. The dazzling lineup BAIC showcased at the auto show are right the results of its consistent efforts devoted to new energy vehicle technologies over the past decade.

In 2019, BAIC led the move to launch the National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center, and invested heavily in the setup of BAIC New Energy Vehicle Test Center, which is focused on the innovation and R&D of vehicle control, motor control and battery control systems and aimed to advance the technological development of the industry. Since then, BAIC has achieved continuous breakthroughs in motor efficiency, recycling efficiency, battery energy density, thermo runaway warning, thermo runaway inhibition and safe electrical control of tens of thousands of components at the millisecond class. In the appraisal for the 2020 China Automotive S&T Award Ceremony held recently, BAIC’s project about the key technologies and industrialization of vehicle, motor and battery control platforms for electrical vehicles was honored the first prize for scientific and technological progress.

After more than a decade of dedication to new energy vehicles, BAIC has not only cemented its industrial foundation in electrical vehicle technologies, but also made fruitful achievements in intelligent technologies.

In terms of intelligent products, ARCFOX αT is the world’s first auto product equipped with 5G technology that BAIC developed in collaboration with Magna and Huawei. Based on the world’s first IMC intelligent module standard structure incorporating 5G technology, and equipped with the L2.5 smart driving system α-Pilot, all-scenario parking function and a holographic cockpit, ARCFOX αT provides users with an intelligent, mobile and exclusive space. As the world’s first model equipped with Huawei laser radar, ARCFOX αT HBT can solve problems in actual driving scenarios like small obstacles in the distance, left turns at crossroads and underground garages.  

As the first intelligent model under BEIJING’s BMFA structure, BEIJING-X7 boasts strong competitiveness in intelligent technologies, with facial identification, L2 autonomous driving, intelligent voice interactions and remote OTA upgrade delivering consumers better-than-expected intelligent driving and riding experience.

Next, BAIC will continue to work on intelligent technologies, intelligent products, intelligent ecology and intelligent transport. It aims to build five core platforms respectively for autonomous driving domain controllers, intelligent driving algorithm, 5G connectivity, IoV big data and Ethernet safe gateways during the 14th Five-year Plan period, and realize the mass production of L4 autonomous driving products and the mature development of L5 fully autonomous driving technology by 2025.

In the future, BAIC will refine the ability in independent development and take the path to quality development, and deepen the research on intelligence, connectivity, energy conservation and new energy technologies, so as to provide the market with more new energy vehicle products that meet consumer expectation and drive the boom of China’s new energy industry.
