On May 27, the national mountaineering team and the First Land Measurement Team under the Ministry of Natural Resources successfully got to the top of Mount Everest. As the field operation vehicle of the First Land Measurement Team, BJ80 escorted the surveying and mapping workers in the whole process, adding honor to the time-honored brand of “Off-road Family”.

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. Since the measurement was initiated on April 30, measuring the elevation of Mount Everest has attracted much attention. Given the unique geographic conditions, complex geological structures and extremely high elevation, the measurement is of huge values, and of great importance to our understanding towards glacier changes, environmental evolution and biodiversity amid the backdrop of climate change. It’s estimated that the Himalayas rises by about 20-30 m per 10,000 years, and by about 7 cm per 100 years on average. As China succeeded in the measurement of Mount Everest once again, its elevation will be refreshed again.

Inheritance of Mission Rooted in History

In 1975, a Chinese surveying team erected a geodetic beacon on the top of Mount Everest for the first time, and measured its elevation, which was 8848.13 m. The data was recorded in the history of human civilization. BJ212, the first-generation light off-road vehicle in China, was the only survey vehicle available back then, leaving its mark in history along with the heroes.

In 2020, inheriting the mission of “Off-road Family”, BJ80 once again supported the measurement of the elevation of Mount Everest as a field operation vehicle, writing a new chapter for China’s surveying and mapping cause together with the surveying and mapping workers. On May 20, BAIC and the First Land Measurement Team held a low-key vehicle delivery ceremony in the Mount Everest camp, which cast spotlight on the core product of Beijing Off-road Vehicle. After accomplishing the remeasurement of Mount Everest, Beijing Off-road Vehicle will continue to serve the First Land Measurement Team in its follow-up surveying and mapping work.
